After an eighteen year album hiatus, iconic hip hop group “A Tribe Called Quest” has released their final album entitled “We got it from Here…Thank You 4 Your service”. 2016 has been quite a year dealing with social issues of racism, sexism, police brutality, etc. and this new record created by group members Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife Dawg, and Jarobi White addresses it all, while honoring the remembrance of Phife who passed away tragically this past March.
This album is filled with powerful political messages regarding our country over the past few years and its progressive demise. All sixteen songs off the album have immense social and political undertones that stand for the voice of the people who believe in the power of change and positive influence we need in this country, especially in times like these. The album contains several features within it, with fellow rappers such as Anderson .paak and Busta Rhymes, who all contribute their own voices that need to be heard.
Although Tribe has been off the radar for quite sometime, it didn’t take long for this album to climb up the chart of Billboard to claim its Number One spot. The sociocultural hip hop record combining the group’s classic iconic sounds and rhymes with the current events around the country made for a timely, much needed release. Its exceptional and unique beats present in every track produced amplifies the words and dynamic messages coating it. Although this was released as Tribe’s last album, this one is a grand finale that will influence all who listen to it and instill us with the insight and awareness through music, something this country desperately needs, for many generations to come.
