The Internet of Things - cars, homes, offices, shipping containers, shopping carts, clothes, devices, everything - is a fantastic dream. You will constantly in touch with your stuff and everyone else on the spinning blue marble so the world will literally be at your fingertips. Of course you and your stuff will also be in reach of everyone as well. But that's okay because it makes everyone equal except when it doesn't. The challenge is the individual things that are connected are targets for hackers, whackers and cyberthieves. Nothing worse than your thing(s) filled with malware or being held for ransom until you cough up a few hundred Bitcoins and hope there is such a thing as honor among thieves. If not you are so ****ed or worse.

Content Folks Focus on the Technical Issues of Entertainment

VR is so real it led off the four-day HPA conference down in Palm Springs but it was only the tip of the iceberg of what technicall creative pros are doing way above and beyond (better) than what your kids post every day on YouTube. This is the event where the pros roll up their shirt/blouse sleeves to talk about how they're going to ensure quality content is produced and distributed. Yes the studio, production company and network pros also spent a lot of time figuring out the new OTT (Over The Top) streaming of content everywhere, anywhere, anytime to any device. Yes we do live in interesting times.

Toys are Getting Smarter, More Educational but Riskier

Admit it. See all the new toys for kids and they make you want to be one again (still?). And if you want the world to think AI and robots everywhere are the natural order of things what better way than make them an integral part of a person's life right at the start? Of course how deviously simple. Kids aren't suspicious like you. They get a friendly little toy that talks with them, shares information, ideas, photos, whatever and hey it's gotta be a good thing. But kids tend to share too much don't they and the toys shares with someone else and pretty soon you're in deep pucky. They can be hacked and held for ransom and stuff that goes on at home is suddenly...everywhere. Crap so much for an innocent toy!

Sundance Spotlights Tomorrow’s Content Developers

OK everyone is fighting to deliver you content -- YouTube and respectable channel folks around the globe. They're delivering to folks who have TV sets but fewer of them). But according to the folks at MWC (Mobile World Congress) the real plaything is the device you've got in your hand. Big deal. Everyone knows it's all about great content and that comes from great filmmakers (4K/HDR and VR). These driven men, women showed off fantastic stuff at the Sundance Film Festival and they're showing even more at all of the festivals around the globe. Put down the cat/dog/stupid guy trick stuff and check out what really counts...fantastic, professional content from folks who want only a couple of things - cheers and monitization.
